Manteno swears in Officer Ben Elzinga | Manteno Police Department

The Manteno Police Department announced that Officers Ben Elzinga and Angellyn Hurtado were sworn in at a Village Board meeting earlier in December.

According to the department, Officer Ben Elzinga was officially sworn in during the December 16 Village Board meeting. Elzinga, originally from Herscher and an alumnus of Herscher High School, holds an associate's degree in law enforcement from Kankakee Community College. Before joining the Manteno Police, he worked as a security officer at Riverside, where he acquired significant experience in public safety.

The department also shared on a December 17 Facebook post that Officer Angellyn Hurtado, who hails from Oak Forest, was sworn in alongside Elzinga. Hurtado graduated from Tinley Park High School and is currently pursuing a double major in Criminal Justice and Social Work at Olivet Nazarene University. She is expected to graduate soon to attend the Police Training Institute in early January. The Manteno Police noted that Hurtado interned with the department last fall.

Additionally, the Manteno Police Department congratulated Officer Mrazek for completing his training at the Police Training Institute. Mrazek received instruction on police work fundamentals through classroom sessions and scenario-based exercises. He will now begin the Field Training phase of his career, spending 12 weeks working under constant supervision alongside a training officer.
